hi all,
I am very new to the game, and though I have the disc I have opted to play the demo first to get the hang of it.
When I install the full game will I lose my demo character?
Has anyone got any good suggestions for a character type? I am playing a human warrior at present, now up to lev 7.

Yes you can save your demo characters to the full version. What I did was just install the full right over the demo. But some ppl had problems with this so I recomend you save your cahracter file first. This can be done by going to the C:/programe files/artifact-entertainment/demise/system/demise folder find the file named DEMISECharacter.DED then right click on it then chose send to and breifcase and you get a instant back up of it. just in case.

Choose what you want to play with, but humans are a difficult starting race, as they get no racial resistances.
If you are playing SP I would suggest playing a giant, and running the first 4-5 lvls with it, collecting tomes and such for whatever your primary character (Legacy) is. This gives you a chance to get a feel for the game, a little magic (with explorer), and a character that is better able to survive right off. Make sure you have wis&int at 10, agl to 10 if you want to equip the starting sheild for warrior, or 12 if you dont think you will get 2 agl tome by the time your art hits lvl 10 (for dagger of steath (first 2 swing weapon)) and the rest into stamina.

Seeing how you posted in the multiplayer discussion, probably means you will be playing MP. Again the choice is your, but humans dont have any natural resistances. I would suggest dwarf (decent natural resistance and alot of possible classes), but there are many other much more knowledgeble people here who could better answer that.

For running a solo Character, might I suggest reading Lok's guide in the archives. He has some great things to say.

For learning purposes, my personal choice would be a giant. The guild selection is quite good, altho lacking in offensive magic, but you don't need that for a while. Once you get comfortable with the game, then you can switch to a more versatile character or party.

Just an addition to Doggs comments - my understanding of the 'safe' way to do this is that you also have to be aware that if you are loading the new game into a seperate partition or to a different directory structure to preserve your 'working' demo install - you must install the full version and restart the PC but it is important NOT to play the game until AFTER you copy the DEMISEcharacters.DED file into its appropriate sub-directory. If you don't do this, the files wont be configured correctly, and the file size may not be reduced (a bug in the demo).
At least - that's the way I was recommended to do it last April or such ... when my MP characters became 'cloned' My original demo chars are still going strong ...

Hey Decklin, got a saris ninja? :-)

One of these days, I really gotta re-install the demo to do that again just for grins...
