Ok I found a copy of win 2000 cheap but it says no COA what does that mean? Here is the discription. Upgrade OEM. Includes CD, manual, license on CD. Requires previous Microsoft operating system. NO COA.

Certificate of Authenticity. You don't need it if you have the install key (the numbers with the dashes). All it does is prove to the buyer that they are getting a product prodeced or authorized by Microsoft.

Having said that, however - Sometimes an OEM version will only install on the brand/model it was created for. It usually doesn't matter, but sometimes...

Does that mean it's illegal/warez?

Not warez. When you by a computer that comes with NT or Win98, it usually has an OEM version. Somewhere in the pile of stuff in the box the computer came in is the COA. It usually gets lost around the time the box gets thrown away. As to legal, I'm not sure. I think Microsoft's license agreements for their OS's are non-transferable. In that case, it's probably not legal. I could be wrong, though. Anyone else have an idea?
