CheckStoryIndex Error

I'm a newbie to the game, just started and have recently completed the level 30 slave driver quest for warrior. I am now getting CheckStoryIndex Errors and Lord Gheric doesn't recognize my killing the slave driver (although I have gone back and killed him several times now). Do I need to restart my character or reinstall? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try deleting the storyitemindex.ded file. That may help.
