'Clunkiness' after only a few minutes of playing

I currently have the demo version of Demise but have ordered the full game which should be here within the next few days. After fully exploring levels 1-3 with my party of four characters, I'm now having irritating problems. Whenever I enter the dungeon and reach the staircase to level 4, my hard drive starts bursting every time I move which is extremely distracting and slows things down considerably. It usually starts to happen whenever I've been in the dungeon for about 3 minutes or so... it'll go away once I return to town, but will come back after the same amount of dungeon time. My system is... Athlon 850, 256MB PC133 RAM, 30GB ATA100 Hard drive (only 4.5GB used), Windows 2000 Professional, Creative GeForce 2 GTS 32MB (using latest Detonator drivers), SB Live 1024 Soundcard. Apart from this the game just doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders... lots of HD activity generally. Something to do with Windows virtual memory management (ack)? Any ideas would be appreciated, this problem is making the game unplayable

hmm... what if u try disabling file indexing which W2k enables by default on every drive? i have disabled it on every folder on my system and i think that helped a lot. no hard drive "bursting" now in dungeon. also set pagefile size to 384MB atleast (should be by default). didn't work to that "hanging" discussed in earlier thread tho..

I think this might have solved the problem. To remove the indexing I assume you're meaning to do it from Computer Management (I looked it up in Windows help and it pointed there)? Thank'ee kindly for your help...
