After waiting an eternity for the price of Demise to drop a tad, I finally gave in and ordered the full version the other day. Now after installing and patching with the 3 patches available, and then rebooting, i get a windows explorer error upon startup which shuts itself down and renders my entire system inoperable. Any assistance would be most appreciated....

Are you trying to patch the demo? If so, the patches won't work with it. You need the whole game installed before you can use any of the patches.

Did you restart the computer then start the game between installing it and in between each patch?

Well, that must have been the problem, because I believe I installed 2 patches back to back without restarting. Took a full reinstall of windows to correct whatever that did. I have the 3 following patches and I was wondering if all are necessary: DEMISEPatch1.00r3.1.EXE DemiseDLLPatch1Installer.exe DemisePatch353Installer.exe

You might be better off without the installer versions of the files. The installers have been known to cause problems.

I just did a new install and this is what worked: 1) installed the game from the CD. Rebooted. Ran the game, created a char, move all the equipment to the end of the inventory slots (NEVER put an equipped item in slot 1), took it into the dungeon, back to town, exit. 2) installed 3.1 patch. Rebooted. Ran the game (which completes the patch). re-equipped my chars equipment. Went into the dungeon, back to town, exit. 3) installed 353.exe patch. installed dll.exe patch. (NOT the installer versions!!) Rebooted. 4) ran the game. played my character for a while. 5) Haven't decided whether I want to port my characters from my other PC. If I do I'll make a manual backup from the advanced characters, zip the backup folder onto floppies, unzip into the backup folder on the new PC and do a manual restore. (I kind of like starting over from total scratch with a totally new character, so I make just keep her files around for a while).
