CD problem

After some time, I have once again dug out my old favorite, DEMISE. You must understand, this took quite some time, as it was hidden among hundreds of abandoned CDs, so my desire to find it was great or I would have not attempted this. At last, I encountered success! In its original little sleeve, I found the CD. My difficulty emerged when I removed the CD. Firstly, my PC had recently been revamped and due to troubles with the SCSI drivers, didn't have a CD drive set up. So I used my roommate's PC for a quick fix, and it installed and ran smoothly. Soon I hooked up the SCSI card and CD-ROM, and happily installed, again without trouble. Imagine my dismay when I tried to run the program and was told that the installation CD could not be found, despite the little drive blinking away whilst reading the DEMISE CD. Further, I could browse to the CD and run autorun.exe, but clicking Play did nothing. To be honest, as I recall it never did anything, so this isn't surprising. But the CD is indeed readable by my PC. Another strange symptom of this trouble is that in My Computer or Explorer, the icon displayed for the CD drive when the DEMISE CD is in is the generic little page with a Windows flag. Does the fact that it cannot find an icon for the CD mean that it is having trouble reading some sections of it? It does look a little scratched, but I hoped that since it worked fine on one PC, the CD was good enough and it's a setting on mine. Or better yet, that there is a patch or fix to make it stop looking for the darned CD. I tried using Norton Virtual CD, but there's some anti-pirating encoding on the CD that freezes the program.

the last patch does stop it from having to look for the CD and makes you play with out it

The problem is, if he can run the game the first time, he can't patch. Maybe yo can copy the patched exe from another computer, or install another CD drive until you patched, or something like that, just a couple of ideas.

First, the windows icon for the demise cd is normal- that's how it is displayed on my system, so there should be no worry there. Did you explore the demise folder where demise was installed and try to run the game using Demise.exe?

Had this exact same problem with my kis's PC last week. In their case, I could run the game, but it asked me to insert the CD everytime. I tried cleaning it to no avail (though there were fingerprints all over). In the end, I just ran the game's setup.exe and reinstalled it. THis fixed it straight away. So I would suggest, clean the CD and re-install (especially if you are having problems with Adiboo

I'm happy to say that I found a way to get around this!
1. I ran the patch for 353. Tried to enter the game, and got a blank window asking me yes or no (turned out to be the sound initialization engine failing because I have no card installed at the moment). Clicking no got me past that, then it said something about a startup error and wouldn't run. Grr.
2. I ran the dll.exe thingy (the huge download). Went back into the game, this time could read all the windows, and best of all, into the game! So now I've been happily readdicting myself ever since.
