Quite simple really.
Assuming you are playing on a LAN you have to get the two PCs to talk to each other first.
(using w98)
Right click Network neighborhood on you desktop. Then find TCP/IP for your NIC(network interface card).
Set your IP address to 192.168.0.1
and on your friends machine to 192.168.0.2
Start Demise Inet server on your machine (I you've done a fresh install of demise you have to run the program (Demise) first and close it)
Go to configure server. Leave master server address blank and set your server address to 192.168.0.1 click save and leave the program running.
Start Demise and go to multiplayer. Add your server to the list by typing your IP (192.168.0.1) to the list and try to connect.
If all goes well you should be now connected to your server.
Now to your friends machine. Run Demise.
Go to multiplayer and once again add the IP 192.168.0.1 to his/hers list and connect.
Now you should be able to play.

If you are connected through Internet then it's a bit more complicated (not much).
1. If your are connecting through a modem or cable modem with dynamic ip (if you don't know what a dynamic or static ip is you most likely have dynamic ip)

go to msdos prompt and type ipconfig /all
from there you'll find your current IP address for your internet connection.
Now start Demise Inet server and go to configure.
Set your server address to the one you found by using ipconfig. Now set master server address to 24.177.150.77 (Thanks Dogg ).
Then give some cool name to your server (not another unnamed server ) Now press save and you are ready to play.
Start Demise and go to multiplayer. Press query and you'll see your server listed there. Copy it to the server lists and connect. Tell your friend to do the same (the Start Demise part).
remember that most ISPs change your IP quite often so you have to change your servers connect address every time this happens (in Demise Inet server)
2. If you have static IP address, just configure it to be your servers address and set the master server IP and your servers name.
That's all there is to it.

Thanks but I'm still a little confused. I have a static IP so I put that in the right side of the screen (forgot the name). But now I'm kinda screwed because I also tried putting my IP address as the master server. Obvioulsy it didn't work and now I can't clear the master server IP address. If I understand this correctly (I read the online help) I should leave the Master Server blank and just input my IP address and port in the other server area.

It's not going to be through a lan. My buddy lives across town from me. My IP address is 207.35.163.155:30000 (almost) so where should I input this information and what should I do about the master server. I am also curious as to the IP addresses you game me.....what are they for anyway.

Thanks for your time.
BTW, I haven't installed any patches if that makes a difference. I am running Win ME

Looks like I figured things out. At least I can connect to my own server. What I had to do is start up the demise server and put the proper info in there. My only question now is what info does my friend need. Can he just use my IP address and connect or does he also need to hook up to the master server to be able to connect. Funny thing is when I run Demise Server it can't connect to the master server. Will this cause any problems. Thanks again

If your running an on line (over the internet) server you need to put the Masterserver addy in its 24.177.150.77 or if your running the demo you'll hafta put in the port number ie 24.177.150.77:25537 then hit save the first time but when you restart the server hit close or it will lose the port number for your buddy to play he'll just need your ip typed in the address area on the right of the mp screen or he should beable to quary the Masterserver on the left but to do this you will also need to put the Masterserver address in the game ie the configure Masterserver button on the left side of the MP screen.

But AFAIK you need to have the latest version to be able to connect to the master server (unless you are using the demo), so by reading your post i dont think you will succeed. There is no problem in that, your friend and anyone who knows your ip and is running the same version should be able to connect.
PS.: Just make sure you and your friend have the same version!

I just networked my 2 home computers together. I'm trying to set it up so my wife can play to. (since she can't get me away from the computer i guess it's the only way she can see me). I followed your instructions.
1.made sure my computers could talk to each other.
2.Installed demise on both computers.
3.installed all patches as described in other areas on this bb.
4.ran demise server on host computer.
5.left master server blank and entered info as explained here.
6.ran demise multiplay and was able to connect.
Here's were the problem develops.
7.ran demise on second computer in mp
8.tried to connect to ip adress of host copmuter "connection refused"
9.tried to connect using computer name instead of ip adress "connection refused"

I checked my tcp ip setting everything was ok. The only thing i'm not sure about is do I need to set up an ipx connection?
Any help would be great thanks.

As long as you have your ip as the connect address and your computers name as the bound address in the server configuration you should be able to connect. Try putting :26000 in after the name or ip address (that is if you left 26000 as the bound port) example-computers name:26000 or 24.177.150.77:26000

While your in here there's also a place to put your computers name in so do it

I'm running ME. How do I find out what my computers bound adress is? On the demise server I configured it to 26000 already. Where do i put the computer name as of now its in the bound adress and 26000 is set as the bound port.

Ok to get your IP address you go to run and type winipcfg put that in as the connect address the bound address is your computers name the bound port is 26000
Go to the network places and right click it then click properties then click identification this is where you put in the computers name and both computers should have a work group name that is the same.
