Sp -> Mp Characters

posted 05-15-2001 05:49 AM
Hello,
I am new to running a Demise server, and somewhat unfamiliar with etiquette. I saw a message that a player ”x” had been working on converting a SP character to MP and was working towards editing some of the text in the character . This concerns me in that, it is more difficult to work up a character in MP than in SP where you can run as a group. This person has not played on my server before, which makes me think he is using my server as a testing ground before he plays on his/her usual server. This may not be an issue to most, but being new to the admin on Demise, I am open for input.

It was me and check my post on the general discussion forum.

As I said there I do not plan on using this. Just doing it for fun...
I will most certainly not make an utility for this or anything (if even possible for me )

BTW... try running a solo char in SP without a full store (as you get quickly in MP with people visiting your server).

It isn't easier but that's something completely else.
Ps. I am a member of the LPL --> www.kensworld.com/lpl
Check it out and you can see I am certainly not in favour of cheating... (or you could ask around here for my stance on them )

Duke,
As a friendly suggestion- you may want to post a message on the server and let the admin know what you are up to.

Hm true... but I already explained to him it wasn't for cheating or anything guess I was not believed probably because he never heard of me...
My mistake will try to use loopback server if I continue testing instead...

TheDuke,

I wasn't fishing for confessions or reasoning, I was not trying to direct that any one person had been cheating, I posted a message that was vague (I did not list names or IP addresses) because I was asking how to handle/deal with such players that would rigg their character(s).
As to SP vs MP, to me it is easier to control a party(in SP) than to have to work solo, with companions, or in parties with other people in MP. The items may not be as available in SP as in MP, but for me, a good party can overcome store limitations IMHO.
Ok, you didn't modify stats/objects. I was simply posting as new member of the community with a concern. I am new to the Demise scene and I would like to come across as a legitimate (clean), honest, and fair server. I didn't mean to have people feel that I was finger pointing, making direct accusations, offend, flame, or trying to stir up anyone.

Hey Duke,
I'm all for testing and finding stuff out. Like you, I do not like cheaters. You are not a cheater. I know Pitt is just trying to maintain the high level of standards that true Demise players expect of the available servers. By all means, your motives are good. Now- how about we start a new thread flaming cheaters !?

Pitt...

You made a good post. I shouldn't have hopped on your server telling such things.
I applaud your efforts to keep a clean server!

Pitt, the best way to deal with cheaters is to go to a non-cheating MP server (in SP there is no problem).
When on other servers and you suspect someone of running a hacked char, do not accept anything from them. If you get something, dump it and continue on your way.
Good Luck. and checkout the LPL siter at www.kensworld.com/lpl

Also if you see someone runnign what appears to be a hacked char you could leave a message for the server admin (I know I would apprecitate it)

I always appreciate it too .... sometimes deciding whether a char is hacked is quite difficult - there are some old-timers out there with experience levels that would startle you
The ones I saw on the demo were only the "obvious" 999,999,999,999,999,999 ones
I believe the 'duplicate but different' rings in my store are a result of the various patches - not an indication of hacked items.
