Yesterday a new game crash happend, as if there weren't enough already. The game crashes when ever I try to get something off the bounty board. Not only does the game crash it locks up the whole system. This is the only place the game frezes at. The only thing that is different is I got a newer motherboard with a faster processor. Any ideas?

If you're running d3d and in windowed mode, try again in full mode. If you're in d3d switch to OGL and try again ... may help?

Tried, same thing... I'm going to reinstall game. What file(s) contain map info?

I dont think you can retain the map other than make a manual backup before you re-install, save the entire backup sub-directory elsewhere, re-install the game ( and patches etc ... tedious!) then copy the backup directory and do a manual restore ...

me again - Dogg had an important post elsewhere about some of the downloaded patches being wrong ... maybe make sure you use only the A-E links .... and reload the patches ... have you tried doing a manual backup and then restoring? Or running it in SP instead of MP or vice versa?

Problem with keeping a manual back up is I might transfer the infected file over to newlly installed game thereby I could be back where I started....
As a side note, problems like this one was the main reason I quite playing the game last year. I'm woundering if I made a mistake devoting all this time to a game which does't seem to work correctly.
But you know I'm still going to play this goddamn game, I'm hooked!

Once you get back to the patch level where you did your manual backup do a manual backup and save those files (We'll call this the 2nd backup and the one you did before reinstalling the 1st backup). Then do this:
1) Try copying your 1st saved backup files into the active backup folder and do a manual restore. Play a while and see if the crash problem still exists. If it does, go to #2.
2) copy the 2nd manual backup (from the clean install) to the active backup folder. Copy your DEMISECharacter.DED file from you 1st backup to the active backup folder. Run the game and do a manual restore. See if the crash problem goes away. You'll lose your stores and maps but at least you'll keep your characters.
