ding bug and no Demise

Okay, I finally got back into Demise after 2 years of everquest. D/Led the demo to play while I waited for the retail to arrive. When it did I installed (following the run, patch, run, patch, run), and got a weird graphic glitch at startup. So I uninstalled, killed the demo, cleared the registry and tryed again. Now it won't get past the 1st install. I've tried installing the demo again, no luck. I did unfortunately use the installer (nothing on the d/l page said not to). My system is 2 months old, and consists of P3-866, 256Mb RAM, 40Gb Harddrive, 64Mb GeForce2. I've reinstalled bothe DirectX8 and the nVidia drivers, from new downloads. The rest of my system seems fine but Demise runs, shows the startup pic, then stops displaying it, the mouse pointer resets, and there's a *ding* sound. I've tried the advide posted elsewhere about checking [drivers32] in system.ini for incorrect lines, and manually added 4 ocx files using regsvr32. Still no luck. I unfortunately don't have a backup program, nor had I bought a CD-R yet. I'm hoping I won't have to reformat, since everything was installed by Dell the first time (I know how to do it, it's just a pain), Does anyone have any idea or solutions? This is really frustrating me. Thanks,

Oh, I sould have mentioned that I'm using WindowsME (I know, but I streched my budget on the system, couldn't afford another $300 for an OS upgrade to 2k).

i had the ding bug twice and i couldn't get it fixed, other than to format c:

it's definitely a registry problem, since i've un-installed and installed a couple different times in the last year, without having to re-load windoze. I no longer do the reg-edit thang and i haven't had the ding bug since. There are ppl that have 'fixed' the ding bug with the help of Thorgal the red. Hopefully the posts are around the boards somewhere. It's a major pain, been there.

Ok I have sent the demise.icd registry entries to you. Let us know if this takes care of your problem.

Thanks. It did the trick, Demise runs. Now it stops after the 353 patch (yes, I used the exe and data patches this time, not the installer). I'm going to try to beat it into submission for a while; if that doesn't go off, how playable is 100r3.1 ? I assume it wouldn't communicate with other versions for MP?

If you run only the 3.1 you will be able to play MP. If you canīt make the 353 work it is ok to use the 3.1

The 353 was supposed to solve stability issues

Stability issues... *ahem* ... Ri-i-ight. Are we sure that 353 wasn't specifically designed to see how many different ways Windows could crash? Anyway, Much thank to Varzil for the files; I'm playing a bit of SP, and I'll shift over to MP soon.
