I installed directX 8 acouple of months ago and recently installed the latest driver for my ATI Rage Pro 128 with 32 Megs. Now I sometimes experience a sudden drop back to windows and have to reboot the comp to start playing again. Any ideas anyone?
PIII 550, 20 giga HD (12 giga free), 256 MB RAM, ATI Rage Pro 128 with 32 MB RAM.

not sure if this will help ya, but whenever i've mapped a lot of new area, i get this type of crash. have had it a few times in last week or so. I just did a re-install and am having to re-map the whole dungeon, so i try to shut game down about every 30-60 minutes whenever i've mapped a lot--- seems to help. btw, i don't have dx8 installed. The crashes occur after mapping an extensive amount--- around 1-2 levels and then when i return to town and am either shuffling inventory or in the store... the game 'disappears' with no error messages and i'm looking at my desktop. I don't get a lock-up, but re-boot anyway. When i had the dungeon mapped, the lock-ups/crashes (while shuffling inventory or in store or zoo) didn't kick me out of the game, it just froze up my puter and i had to hit the power switch on puter... wouldn't come out of game using ctrl-alt-del, ctrl-esc etc, etc --- nothin' worked. when i am not mapping, i usually quit game around 90 minutes or so.... keeps things running smoothly. I have lost too many items in the past few years due to crashes. The worst is mapping a significant amount and losing all the work to a crash...grrrrr!

I got into the habit of backing up my files just before I walked back into town. I had it happen quite a few times where I went back to town, went to the store, crashed, reloaded game and had it tell me that the files have been hacked and to restore my backup (which was 2 weeks old at the time). A few choice words were mentioned. Hope this helps.
