The Game Screen

 
When you start (run your character), you will find two primary window panes that contain all of your character (and party) data.  Below is a description of each primary window 'pane' that contains specific game data. 

Button related Windows 
In order to make the interface and display of Demise easier, the two main windows panes of the game have buttons within them that allows the player to display different windows of data.  To find out what each button does, hold the mouse cursor over the button and wait for the description to pop up!

Main Info Window 
The Main Info Window is where most detailed information will be shown:  The buttons at the bottom of the window provide easy access to character information, and whenever you select Info for an item, a spell or a monster, this is where it will appear.  You can hold your mouse over a particular icon to find out what it is.  Below is a description of the separate button windows: 
 
 
Stats (Main Character Information) Button 1 
This first button is used to display your character's Name, Guild Title and all other important statistics, including age and special modifiers (e.g. Invisible, Levitating, Poisoned). 

  
Modifiers (Resistances & Modifiers) Button 2 
This query will list all resistances and the current resistance level (given as a percentage, "0%” for none) for the selected character.  It also contains sight, breathing and regeneration information along with your language skills. 

 
Guild (Guild Information) Button 3 
This query will display all of the guilds the character is a member of, the level of each guild, and a list of the abilities that the character has, along with a rating (between 1 and 100) and which guild the ability comes from. The Ability rating is based on the maximum level of that particular ability available in the game.  For example, the Warrior's guild is the only guild that can reach a Fighting Ability rating of 100 since they have a better fighting ability than any other guild.  And since the Warrior's guild can reach the highest ability, their highest ability is what your current ability will be rated on.  This means that no other guild can give a character a Fighting Ability of 100. If your character has a Penalty Value when making levels, it will be shown here as well. 

 
Miscellaneous Item/Monster/Spell Information Button 4 
When you select "Info on Item” from the Items Window, "Companion Info” from the Companion Section, right click on a spell in your Spellbook or select Info in the Store or the Confinement, the relevant info appears in this window.

Item Information 
ID (Identification) Level represents how much you know about the item.  For the lowest ID Levels, only the class or sub-class of the item is shown.  For higher ID Levels, some or all of the following information will also be displayed: 

  • The Name and the A/D the item has to offer (when equipped).  If the item is a weapon, a number in brackets, the damage modifier, appears after the A/D. 
  • Guilds that are allowed to use the item (to the right of the item picture), along with what level one has to be (in that particular guild) to use (or equip) the item. 
  • Whether or not the item is Class Restricted. 
  • Stats: The stats that are required to use or equip the item.  A number in brackets means that the item will raise or lower the stat by that amount when the item is equipped or used. 
  • How many hands the item requires to equip and, for a weapon, how many swings it offers. 
  • If an item can cast a spell and is completely identified, you will be informed of what the spell is and at what level the item will cast the spell. 
  • Any special abilities that the item bestows on its wielder/wearer (such as Invisible or Levitate), or special damage caused by a weapon. 
  • Resistances the item bestows on the wielder/wearer.

    Spell Information  
    Spell Information includes: 

  • The Name and Class of the spell and which resistance (if any) it is affected by.
  • For Damage and Heal spells, the power of the spell is given by two numbers after either "Damage:” or "Heal:” (for example, ‘15/5’).  These numbers represent the <base>/<levelmodifier> of the spell. 
  • The Guild that teaches the spell and the number of Spell Points required to cast it.
  • The Stats Required to cast the spell.
  • Any special information (i.e. how many groups & monsters the spell affects and the range if it's a combat spell).  You will also be told if the spell is a ‘mass’ spell (i.e. affects the entire party). 
  • At which Spell Level you can cast the spell.

    Monster Information 
    Depending on the ID Level of the character (based on Intelligence, Wisdom and Guild Level), the information displayed includes the following: 

  • The Name, Alignment and A/D of the monster.
  • The Stats most relevant for combat.
  • How ‘content’ or how well ‘bound’ a companion is (based on whether the companion joined free of will or was bound/charmed).
  • Any Special Abilities of the monster (i.e. Fire Resistant, Can Stone, etc.).

    Character Data Pane  

    The Secondary window Pane contains party/companion information, messages, and character data (items, spells).  The Toolbar for this pane is located in the lower center portion of the pane, and allows the players to switch between Spells, the Dungeon, Items and Area Look.

    Party/Companion Section  
    The upper part of this window shows pictures of all the characters in the party, along with bars indicating their Hit Points (red) and Spell Points (blue).  The colour of the Hit Points bar will change if a character gets Poisoned, Diseased, Paralyzed, or a combination of these. 

    The lower half of the window shows the companions, if any, of the selected character, along with bars showing their Hit Points.

    Spells Window 
    Your Spellbook. From here, you can look up spells and cast them.  You can get information about a spell as well.  This window also supports Drag and Drop to the Buffer Window.  When you click on a spell class from the top row, the spells in that class will be displayed.  Blue spells indicate that your character is able to cast those spells, while yellow spells indicate that your character is lacking in one or more stats.  To cast a spell that has been typed in or selected, click on the Cast button or hit Enter while in the ‘Spell Name’ text box.  To get information on a spell, right-click on the selected spell.  For frequently used spells, it's recommend that one uses a Buffer. 
     
      
    Automap 
    The Automap tab switches you back to the dungeon map for navigating, and also enables you to view the Automap while in the city. 

      
    Items Window  
    Items button.  From here, you can Equip, Use, Drop and Examine items by right-clicking on them.  You can move them around and place them as you wish by using Drag & Drop or by pressing W and then the position moving from and to (ie. W 1,21 will move the item in slot 1 to slot 21).  You can also swap items and move items to the Bank and the Buffer Window by using Drag and Drop.  Double-clicking on an item will Equip it.
     

     
    Look (Area Look) 
    The Area List will display the characters that are in the same room as the current character.  This is useful for finding out who is in a room if you've stumbled over somebody but don't know who. You can also right-click to see a list of all the players on the server.

      
    Buffers (Spell/Item Buffers) 
    Click on the books in the lower left corner and the window containing your spell and item buffer information appears.  Your character has the ability to move (Drag and Drop) spells and items into the slots, which then allows your character to use the item or cast the spell in the selected slot by hitting Shift-Number Key on the keyboard or by double-clicking on the slot itself.  Very useful for combat. 

      
    Messages Section  
    If you click on the Lips in the lower right corner, you'll see the Message Window in which all important messages for your character or others in your party will be displayed.  When you cast a spell on yourself or another, it will be displayed here.  Experience required for your guild will also be displayed here by typing "/g”. Type "/?” to display a list of commands you can use in this window.  Combat messages and found items will be displayed in the Dungeon Message Box.
